Ah-Ma-Zing Potpourris

Wouldn’t you know it? I stumbled onto another FAB site over at punkdomestics.com and now I have to copy everything she’s doing too. Try this, you’ll like it!

First, we’re making old-fashioned potpourri. That means these need to be heated either on your stove top or in a fondue pot, etc. The original recipes are much more intricate than these scaled-down, simple versions. You’ll need the following:

Orange Spice Potpourri

1 orange
1/2 cinnamon stick
1/2 tablespoon whole clove

“Fresh” Lemon-Herb Potpourri

2 lemons
3 sprigs rosemary
1/2 vanilla bean

1 pint-sized mason jar per recipe

The first 3 ingredients go into one of the jars, and the next 3 go into the second jar. That’s it! Fill with water and keep them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use them. They don’t look nearly as good as the original… but you get the idea. (I don’t know how the original came out so great. I tried, really!)

When you’re ready to use one, add the contents to a small saucepan and cook over the lowest heat possible. Or use a fondue pot using a candle to heat it. You will probably want to add a second jar full of water from the start, but continue adding water the longer you cook it. These jars will give you 2-3 days of fragrant bliss (though they won’t look so hot after day one).
